An in-depth look at why the Atlanta Hawks should draft athletic wing Cam Reddish out of Duke in the 2019 NBA Draft.

This summer is going to be eventful for the Atlanta Hawks, whether it be through the 2019 NBA Draft or free agency. Atlanta finished the 2018-19 season in fifth place in the Southeast Division and 12th place in the Eastern Conference while finishing with a 29-53 overall record.

Throughout last season Atlanta Hawks fans’ witnessed the growth in their young core in Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and John Collins. Young, Huerter and Omari Spellman were all drafted in 2018. Taurean Prince was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for Allen Crabbe and the no. 17 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

This summer the Atlanta Hawks will have six picks at their disposal (8,10,17,35,41,44) come Thursday, June 20, at 7:00 p.m. ET. Atlanta will have a chance to either trade up or down come this draft but one player that they need to strongly consider drafting is Duke forward Cam Reddish.

Reddish is a former McDonald’s All-American (2018) and was a solid role player for Duke last season. He is listed at 6-foot-8 and is primarily a small forward. He is a young wing player who has the potential to develop into a solid two-way player.

Last season at Duke, Reddish played relatively well during his freshman season but played third fiddle to Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett. Some may think that drafting CR as a lottery pick is ludacris but he has the offensive and defensive potential to develop into a durable professional.

Reddish also helped Williamson and Barrett lead the Blue Devils to the Elite Eight before suffering a heartbreaking 68-67 loss to Michigan State.

Here are a few reasons why the Atlanta Hawks should draft Reddish with the eighth pick.
