Atlanta Hawks Over/Under for Wins Set at 32.5
By Chris Guest
A quick look at where Las Vegas oddsmakers have set the win total for the Atlanta Hawks next season.
Last year, the Atlanta Hawks improved their win total from 24 in 2017-18 to 29 wins on the back of some clutch-time heroics from Trae Young as well as a generally higher talent level for the team after the excruciating season prior.
Vince Carter brought veteran leadership, Dewayne Dedmon continued his consistent play and Alex Len provided a terrific “young veteran” presence for the team’s young core of Young, John Collins and Trae Young.

Despite the team logging five more wins than their total in 2017-18, the Hawks actually played like a 24-win team again last season, according to Cleaning the Glass’s expected wins based on efficiency differential. Atlanta was second in the NBA in win differential behind only the LA Clippers; the Hawks won 4.6 more games than their point differential would indicate.
Will that “luck” continue next season? Las Vegas oddsmakers believe that the continued terrific play of the team’s young core combined with the influx of more core pieces (De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish and Bruno Fernando) will push the Atlanta Hawks into loftier territory in terms of wins.
Per OddsShark, Vegas oddsmakers have pegged the Atlanta Hawks for 32.5 wins in the 2019-20 season, which would be an improvement of more than 3 wins. This would be something of a surprise considering the Hawks’ aforementioned luck in terms of their efficiency differential, but with plenty of new players to integrate with proven track records, it might be possible.
Of course, the main purpose this season – as with most seasons at this point in the team’s rebuild – will be to see improvement from the team’s young players while also helping set a culture for the team as they jell as a unit.
With three tremendously promising rookies and a front office that is geared for future success, a three-win improvement might be a stretch. Either way, the season can’t get here soon enough!
