Point Guard: Trae Young

First, let’s start off with an easy one. Trae Young blew away almost all of his fellow rookies last year and even outplayed the feted Slovenian Slinger, Luka Doncic, to end the 2019-20 season. Sure, Doncic’s stats were superb and he was a deserving Rookie of the Year, but the more diplomatic (and correct) solution would’ve been to split the award and name them Co-Rookies of the Year.

No matter, though, as Young will head into the 2019-20 season as one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in the NBA along with his fellow members of the Atlanta Hawks young core.

There can be no doubts about Young’s offensive acumen and general creativity on the more glamorous end. He transformed a dull, listless Hawks offense into a fast-paced, pass-happy squad that aimed always to get good looks from deep or around the rim.

Though he took a few months to get acclimated to the league, once he did, Young put forth incendiary performances on a night-to-night basis filled with striking highlights of ballhandling wizardry, bonkers misdirection passing moves and a variety of nifty off-the-dribble pull-up triples.

Atlanta Hawks fans can expect more of the same next season from Ice Trae, and he will surely return from the offseason with a new renewed focus after only receiving two (count ‘em, two) first place votes for Rookie of the Year.

If Trae can improve on his excellent 19.1 PPG, 8.1 APG and 3.7 RPG stat line per Basketball Reference next season, the Hawks will surely be in good shape.
