Previewing the Atlanta Hawks’ March slate of games.

It’s been discussed before on this site, but it’s worth noting again: The Atlanta Hawks have the easiest remaining schedule in the league. That has been true for a while, but something that really starts to take shape in March.

The Hawks’ first seven match ups in March come against teams under .500, including some fellow cellar-dwellers like the Cavs, Hornets and Knicks. It toughens after those, but not significantly. In total, only three of their total 14 games are against teams with more wins than losses.

Before we analyze further, let’s look at the schedule in full:

Analysis

The Hawks get their first look at both Ja Morant and Zion Williamson this season, the two front-runners for the rookie of the year trophy. The Grizzlies and the Pelicans are the lone teams yet to play Atlanta this year, and they’ll knock out both of their match ups this month as they fight for the eighth seed.

The 14 games are split perfectly with seven on the road and seven in Atlanta. Six of their first eight are in State Farm Arena, but is followed by a west coast road trip that sees them playing four away games.

The Hawks get not one but two three-day breaks in March, which excluding the All-Star break, they haven’t got since December. The fact that they play just one more game in March than in February, which is the shortest month and contains All-Star shows how spread out the Hawks’ remaining games are.

Atlanta still will be favored to lose a good amount of these games, but they should stay way more competitive than they did in November and December when they lost 21 of 23 games.

Clint Capela could make his Hawks debut in March, which fans will certainly be excited for.
