Three trade destanations for Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins.

The rookie scale contract extension deadline came and went on Monday, with the Atlanta Hawks failing to reach an agreement with forward John Collins. What does this mean?

Well Collins will still be on the team next season and the team retains his rights for a few more seasons. After the 2020-21 campaign, he’ll become a restricted free agent.

Despite the team still in a good position to keep the rising star, it’s obvious the two are no longer on perfect terms. He’s on the record to want a max contract and while whether or not he’s deserving of that, the two not coming to terms could jeopardize his future in Atlanta.

With the lack of an extension, the signing of fellow power forward Danilo Gallinari and the drafting  of Onyeka Okongwu – the most John Collins-type player in the 2020 draft – things seem to be lining up for the Atlanta Hawks to trade John Collins.

Spicy.

While again, whether or not this is a good idea is up for debate, the return could be huge. He’s a 23-year-old rising star who averaged a 20-10 last season. He’s a prolific rim-runner and a consistent outside shooter.

So before we argue that if trading him is a good idea or not, let’s take a look at three teams that could be interested in the forward’s services.
