Why the Atlanta Hawks would agree to the trade.

More from Soaring Down South

The Hawks need to get something back for John Collins. As they were not able to come to terms in the offseason for his rookie extension there is a really high probability that he will be gone at the end of the season, one way or another.

By trading for Larry Nance Jr you get a solid power forward who does a lot of the things that Collins does. He is also currently leading the league in steals so his defensive mindset will mesh really well with Clint Capela in the starting lineup.

You also have a level of security that goes along with the two years he has left on his contract after this season. In that time he could become very comfortable with his role as a Hawks starter and decide to stay. He is only 28 so he fits quite well with the Hawks timeline.

On top of that, the Hawks would get a really solid backup center in JaVale McGee. Since signing with the Los Angeles Lakers three years ago McGee’s career has blossomed. He could also fill a gaping hole in the Hawks roster.

When Capela goes to the bench, the Hawks do not have anyone who is able to fill the defensive role as a backup center. The Charlotte Hornets exposed this weakness in both losses and it needs to be fixed for the Hawks to move up the standings. McGee would fit the role perfectly.
