When you think that just two seasons ago Siakam was at the top of the NBA summit. He had just been a massive influence on the Raptors winning the championship and life was good. Team leader Kawhi Leonard then left the team and the NBA world expected the Raptors to fall apart.
They then came back last season and were again near the top of the standings in the east and this was in large part due to Siakam. What a difference an offseason makes though. This season the Raptors are down near the bottom of the standings and don’t seem to be able to get out of their funk.
If the Hawks traded Collins, Reddish, and a veteran they could land the Raptors main man. He would give them some security given that he is under contract until 2023-24 but there are some questions that need to be answered.
One such question is whether Siakam has reached his peak? He is shooting the 3-ball at 31.3 percent which is the lowest since his breakout year in 2018-19. Have the NBA studied enough film that they can slow Siakam down and cause his inefficiency to make his team lose.
Should the Hawks trade for Siakam if they cannot guarantee his game will take them to the next level? It is an interesting possibility that could be pursued.
