The Atlanta Hawks are always trying to improve their ranks. Last season they traded for Clint Capela and that has gone incredibly well for the franchise. Over the last offseason, they traded for Tony Snell and Danilo Gallinari. They also signed Kris Dunn, Solomon Hill, Rajon Rondo, Nathan Knight, and Bogdan Bogdanovic while drafting Onyeka Okongwu and Skylar Mays.

Add these ten players to the core from last season and there is a good reason for optimism. However, the Hawks still feel like they are a piece or two away. They still do not have their starting lineup set and while Brandon Goodwin appears to have gone past Rondo, the veteran still has the edge in some situations due to his experience.

With the exception of Kevin Huerter and Danilo Gallinari, the Hawks bench is lacking true firepower. The loss of Bogdanovic for an indefinite period of time takes away from their bench, the Hawks need a spark who can take over the game.

The Atlanta Hawks could use Isaiah Thomas

Since being drafted with the 60th pick in the 2011 draft Isaiah Thomas has had an interesting career. He has played with seven teams in nine seasons including the Boston Celtics where he became extremely well known. The 5’9″ point guard had the highest scoring average in the fourth period when he was a starter fo the Celtics.

He gave his all to that franchise including playing when he should have been grieving. Even after giving everything, the Celtics traded Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving. Unfortunately, Thomas was suffering the effects of his hip injury and this was the beginning of his struggles with his health.

He has had three surgeries in the last three years to fix the issue and is now reportedly at full strength. So should the Hawks take a risk on the 31-year-old who can take over a game offensively at any time? Absolutely they should. If they can get Thomas on a veteran’s minimum, they should. If nothing else, he will be a tremendous offensive spark if Trae Young is not available as was the case against the Milwaukee Bucks
