The Atlanta Hawks signed Kris Dunn in the offseason and he has yet to play a game due to ankle surgery. Dunn is one of the best defensive guards in the entire NBA and will be a welcome addition when he is able to play.

Dunn underwent ankle surgery on the 29th of December and has been out recovering ever since. He has returned to impact-based rehab activities including skipping, jumping, and spot shooting according to a recent Associated Press article.

The article goes on to state that Dunn is likely to miss at least the next two weeks while he continues his rehabilitation. Dunn will then miss at least the next six games, possibly more until he is recovered.

Dunn, like Tony Snell, has made a living defensively for his NBA career. Dunn is a lockdown defender at either guard position and can also defend the opposition’s wing players as well. However, unlike Snell, he does not have a great stroke from deep.

He is likely to play the end of quarters when the starters have gone off in an effort to stop any runs by the opposition which put the Hawks in a hole. This is a problem for the Hawks in their losses so far this season.

Dunn is also going to be able to help Trae Young out as the superstar point guard does not have the best record defensively. The Hawks will be able to hide Young in the corner, defending the 3-ball while they run Dunn around defensively against the best opposition guard.

This is going to be especially beneficial during the playoffs when Young will be double and triple-teamed by the opposition and will need a break at the defensive end. The Hawks hope to get Dunn back soon to work him into rotations prior to the second half of the season.
