It was announced on Wednesday by Woj of ESPN that the All-Star game would be held at the Atlanta Hawks home venue of State Farm Arena. This could be held as a one-night event which would include the game and a skills competition.

Atlanta last hosted the All-Star game in 2003 at Phillips Arena (now State Farm Arena). It was Michael Jordan’s last All-Star game and Yao Ming’s first appearance. That sounds almost like a lifetime ago.

The problem for Atlanta is that there was no member of the Hawks franchise who played in the All-Star game. Given the returns of the first round of voting, the fans believe that this should be repeated as only Trae Young has made the top-ten backcourt players and he is in sixth.

It would mean a massive amount to the Atlanta Hawks for Trae Young to play.

The Hawks have been starved of much success over the last few seasons. They have missed the playoffs all three years and only had Young as an All-Star. For a team who had success during the Al Horford/Paul Millsap era, this is a bitter pill to swallow.

Young (0.39 million) is sitting in sixth behind Bradley Beal (1.3 million), Kyrie Irving (1.1 million), James Harden (1.0 million), Jaylen Brown (0.59 million), and Zach LaVine (0.47 million). While this is the fan vote, Young is not likely to return to the All-Star game as a starter this season.

While he has had a small slump this season he is putting up really good numbers on a team, which is in the mix for the playoffs which is more than can be said for last season. The Hawks were really bad last season and Young was an All-Star starter.

Mind you, it is difficult to set too much store in these numbers as the Western Conference voting has Klay Thompson as the 10th leading vote-getter. The Golden State Warriors star will not play this season and yet he has almost 100,000 All-Star votes.

What this means Atlanta is that in order for Young to make it to the game is that all Hawks fans need to vote, especially on the 2-for-1 days on the 13th and 16th of February.
