To all the Cam Reddish fans out there, and I am one of them, this one hurt. Reddish is a tremendous young player who I was expecting would take a leap similar to the one that De’Andre Hunter made during the offseason.
Unfortunately Reddish, a top-level defensive stopper has almost regressed rather than progressed on the offensive end of the floor. While he is averaging 11.4 points per game, which is up from his 10.4 last season, he is taking 10.6 attempts, up from 9.6 last season.
While this may not sound like much, Reddish is actually less efficient from the floor, making on 36.1 percent, down from 38.4 percent last season. However, his regression from deep is far more stark and problematic.
Reddish is taking 5.0 shots per game this season from behind the line which is up from last season where he took 4.3 per game. Unfortunately, his shooting percentage from deep has dropped to a concerning number. He is making 25..6 percent of his 3-point shots this season, compared to 33.2 percent in his rookie year.
The good news is that this is not uncommon for second-year players and Reddish is a smart enough player to work it out. When he is able to get a good clean run at the season and gets some confidence back in his shot, Reddish will be back better than ever.
