The Hawks solved a lot of their issues over the last offseason. They bought in shooting and experience with Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari. They bought in two experienced 3-and-D players in Tony Snell and Solomon Hill.
Their defense was given a huge boost with the mid-season trade for Clint Capela last year and when Kris Dunn comes back from his ankle surgery, he will lock down any guard or wing. The last problem they attempted to address was the lack of production offensively when Young sits.
To this end, they signed Rajon Rondo to a two-year/ $15 million deal which simply did not work out. However, the trade which sent Rondo to the LA Clippers and bought Lous Williams home is certainly going to help.
The Hawks lined up against the New Orleans Pelicans without Young due to a knee issue. Brandon Goodwin started and was serviceable but the Hawks would have lost if he was the primary ball-handler. When Williams came on he transformed the game and reminded everyone how good he is.
Williams had 19 points, eight assists, four rebounds, a steal, and a block in 30 minutes of play. His play set up countless other shots and he even took a charge in transition defense. He is going to help the Hawks get a deeper playoff run than expected this season.
