Atlanta Hawks head coach Nate McMillan came out on Tuesday informing the media that De’Andre Hunter had participated in some 3-on-3 workouts and had not had any setbacks to the injured knee which has kept him out for almost half the season.

Hunter left the game against the Washington Wizards in late January with knee soreness before undergoing a non-surgical procedure. This was unsuccessful so Hunter then underwent a surgical procedure to help strengthen his knee.

After missing almost two months of the season, Hunter returned to the Hawks lineup for two games in late March. Unfortunately, Hunter had a setback with the knee and he had to have another non-surgical procedure on his knee and is yet to return.

If Hunter is able to return this season, there is a good chance that he will not return to the starting unit. There is no doubt that he will get court time when healthy but at the moment Snell is performing well with the rest of the starting unit.

In the second unit, Solomon Hill is continuing his season of doing everything for the Hawks. It is hard to see him being replaced in the second unit straight away. This is not because Hill is better than Hunter, he is not. He has developed a chemistry with the second unit which is working.

Hunter will be fed back into the rotations through the second unit. Hill will lose some minutes, but he proved in the bubble that his defense is impactful on games. If the Hawks make it deep enough into the playoffs then Hunter will regain his starting duties with Snell moving back to the bench.

One thing is for sure, coach McMillan will not risk either Hunter or the chemistry the Hawks have developed under his leadership. However Hunter is used, it will be done in a manner that benefits the Hawks.
