Atlanta Hawks making headlines after getting big win in Eastern Conference Finals

The Atlanta Hawks pulled off yet another shocker in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Their 116-113 victory came after a game as close as the final score indicates. There were 19 lead changes and the largest lead was just seven points. Trae Young dropped 48 points and 11 rebounds. It was his playoff career-high, the most points in a Conference Finals debut.

Dominique Wilkins was the last Hawks player to score that many points in a playoff game and that was back in 1988.

Young has been getting a lot of attention lately as he just keeps breaking postseason records. It’s fascinating seeing the narrative around him change in real-time. He’s gone from just being a volume scorer to being a multi-faceted player that can do just about anything offensively.

John Collins is probably going to be sporting another shirt featuring himself after dunking like that. Kent Bazemore chimed in on the matter too.

Kevin Huerter cooled off from his Game 7 explosion but he still managed to hit double figures along with Clint Capela. The latter was subjected to a lot of criticism for his play against Joel Embiid but he keeps coming out on the winning end.

Bogdan Bogdanovic has been struggling through a knee injury but has been doing the little things to make himself useful.

After the game Young spoke of the team’s chemistry.

"“We just keep fighting to the end. No matter what the score is, we just keep fighting.” He added, “Our confidence never goes away. We’ve put too much work in, we’ve gotten too far…we’ve came too far to get here to stop believing in each other.”"

It’s on to Game 2 for Nate McMillan’s crew, but don’t sleep on this Hawks team. They have just as much right to be here as anyone else

"The next highest scoring output in a Conference Finals game by a player 22-years-old or younger was by Kobe Bryant who scored 45 points in 2001."
"Young’s mere presence in a simple pick and roll creates a defensive conundrum. Defenders cannot slip under the screen because of his incredible shooting, leaving them to chase the mouse into his most dangerous position: the paint."
