Atlanta Hawks keys to a Game 2 victory No.3: At some point, the three-ball has to start falling again

The Hawks aren’t alone in this, but it has been an absolute struggle from beyond the arc for them this postseason. Now, percentage-wise, they are just a couple points off of their regular season numbers in the playoffs, but since the start of the second round, they have the third-worst three-point efficiency in the playoffs at 32.4 percent.

More from Hawks News

This is a team that boasted four players over 40 percent from deep and had a fifth, Collins, that was over 39 percent during the regular season.

Where have all the Triples gone?

Well, Young and Bogdanovic have stepped up the number of threes they’re firing off, with the latter being woefully ineffective of late. Danilo Gallinari and Lou Williams are the only two still sitting above the 40 percent mark.

Kevin Huerter has stepped his game up and is up over 38 percent. But it just seems like overall they aren’t falling despite the Hawks being able to get good looks. They’ve been lucky Milwaukee has been worse than them all postseason but they cannot count on that. If nothing else, they would certainly need to start canning threes should they advance to the NBA Finals.

There is still a long way to go before that but the point remains, they need to rediscover their deep magic outside of some Young heroics to have a real shot at finishing not only this round but the whole thing.

People are realizing what the Hawks have known since the beginning of March, or when McMillan stepped in and took over. That is that they are in no way just some gimmick. This is a complete team that can hang with anybody.

If only they would shoot like it.
