Huerter has just finished the third year of his rookie deal. He is eligible for his rookie extension this offseason and the Hawks would be wise to offer him what they sensibly can. Huerter has been incredibly good for the team in the glue-guy role.
He only earned $2.7 million this season and will only earn $4.2 million next season. He is still learning and growing but he has shown that the moment is not too big for him. Yes, he struggled in the last game of the Eastern Conference Finals but don’t forget he is the reason the team made it that far thanks to his efforts against the Philadelphia 76ers.

At the start of the season, Huerter was the only bench player who was hitting the 3-ball with any regularity. Then he started to run the second unit and he averaged good assist numbers. He then moved into the starting unit due to the Hawks injury crisis.
Huerter would then move in and out of the starting lineup as players got hurt and came back. He did not have a set role for the season but he never complained, he just went out and did his job to the best of his ability.
