There really isn’t another skill to me that Capela needs to work on, it is more about focus. The big thing for him is just to remain consistent. We saw his numbers and performance drop in the post-season, he seemed to even disappear at times on offense. The Hawks need Capela and what he brings to the table for this team to take that next step in the post-season.
He will have tough matchups going against the likes of Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he can still be productive and help the team. In wins in the postseason, he averaged 11.5 points and 11.8 rebounds but in losses, he averaged 8.3 points and 10.4 rebounds. Drilling down into the rebound numbers, what is affected the most is defensive rebounds. In wins, he averages 9.0 but in losses, he averages 6.3 per game. When he plays well, the Hawks are a different team.
I expect him to be one of the league leaders once again in rebounds and blocks. He is still one of the better defensive centers and players in the game and doesn’t get enough recognition sometimes. Capela is one of the leaders of this team and right now, is a cornerstone. We may all be focused on the potential of the young core of the Hawks, but I think Capela compliments them perfectly. He does all the dirty work while they get the recognition but that’s just fine with him.
