Collins 2021 playoffs were very up and down as mentioned earlier. He was sometimes the guy who sparked a Hawks run or comeback, but also disappeared at times when the Hawks needed him. In wins during the playoffs, Collins had 15.6 points and 9.3 rebounds. This is in contrast to his production in losses where he had 11.8 points and 8.0 rebounds. He must be more consistent for the Hawks, especially now that he has the new big contract.
He is very capable of that. Sometimes it may not show up in the box score but doing the little things like bringing the energy, and getting boards can also contribute. The talent the Hawks have won’t require him to light it up every game, but the Hawks will go as far as Collins takes them as the second-best player on the team.
He now has a year of playoff experience under his belt, so we can’t use inexperience as an excuse anymore. Collins has to produce for this team for them to reach the NBA Finals. That is the fairly simple equation for the success of this team.
If Collins makes the improvements to his game which will allow him to play with more confidence and consistency, he will stay a key player for the Hawks next season. Young may be the heart of the franchise but Collins is the lungs. One cannot function without the other If he gets it going the Hawks play at another level, so JC is key for the Hawks. Then with his work ethic, it is going to be interesting to see, what he adds to his game next season.
