The Atlanta Hawks took out their fourth game of summer league against the previously unbeaten Miami Heat. They were able to do this despite second-round pick Sharife Cooper sitting out due to health and safety protocols.

As a result, Skylar Mays stepped into the point guard role and was tremendous ending the game with 26 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and two steals. He also received two hits on the head which seemed to ring his bell. He still came on at the end to steady the ship though.

The other player who was sensational again was Jalen Johnson. The 20th pick in the 2021 NBA draft was so efficient in collecting his 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. He went 7-of-16 from the floor, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 4-of-4 from the line.

The Atlanta Hawks finally saw some good moments from Admiral Schofield

More from Soaring Down South

Admiral Schofield was a player the Atlanta Hawks would have been interested to see if he could perform prior to the summer league starting. He has been somewhat of a letdown until the Heat game where he scored 12 crucial points.

Unfortunately for Schofield, given the performance of DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell, he has probably lost the opportunity. Akoon-Purcell has played so well that he should be on an NBA team’s roster when the season starts.

The Hawks also appear to have moved on from Jordan Bell who has been struggling the entire summer league. He did not play at all in the Heat game and it would be surprising to see him in the next stage of the summer league.

The Hawks next play the New York Knicks and they will be looking to take the win. In order to do this, they will need to do it without the talents of Cooper due to the health and safety protocols. This means that Mays is going to need to shine again, as he gains momentum he is taking the rest of the team with him.
