This is going to be the hardest goal for Gallinari to accomplish. Not only is he competing against some incredible player on opposition squads, but he is also playing on one of the best benches in the entire league which could mean a lot for the team’s success, it is not so good for the individual honors.
Mind you, if you gave Gallinari the option of winning the Sixth Man of the Year award or winning an NBA championship, he would choose the championship every time. Remember that prior to leaving the Thunder Gallinari prioritized winning over money.
However, if Gallinari was to win the award then this would put the Hawks in a good position to challenge for the championship. Gallinari’s role coming off the bench during the most recent playoffs was so crucial, he was probably the second-best player behind only Trae Young for the Hawks.
This season Gallinari should not have to be this player for the Hawks as they want to see more out of John Collins now that he has the bag. They also want to see De’Andre Hunter play more. However, this should make it easier for Gallinari to score as opposition teams cannot double him as the Hawks are too potent elsewhere. This could help Galliari win the award.
