Ray Allen made a living as being one of the best 3-point shooters the NBA has ever seen. He will forever be remembered for hitting the game-winner for the Miami Heat stepping back behind the line with so much pressure on him.
Mays showed that he was more than willing to take the 3-ball in the just-finished summer league. He had a mixed level of success, making two or three in succession and then missing some quite badly, even air balling some of his shots.
Apart from the fact that he had some of the best shooting mechanics in the game, Allen also had the right mindset as a shooter, he got to his spots and he shot the ball. If he missed he had enough confidence in himself and his shot that he went again.
What Allen also had was the surety that he was going to get playing time. He was too good a player not to get it. Mays needs to have the mentality of a shooter but also the mindset of a rookie where he needs to fight for every minute that he can get on the court.
