Unfortunately for NBA fans, they did not get to see the incredible play of Arvydas Sabonis until towards the end of his Hall of Fame career. He only played for seven seasons in the NBA but he showed that he should have come over when he was first drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the fourth round of the 1985 draft, where he was taken with the 77th pick.
He was then drafted a year later by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 24th pick in the next draft but stayed playing in Europe for the next nine seasons. He averaged 12.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 24.2 minutes per game.
It is the third number in that stat line which is of the most interest. While he only averaged 2.1 assists per game, it is argued by many that Sabonis was one of the best passing big men ever to play the game. Some of the passes that he was able to make were well ahead of their time.
If Capela is able to work on his passing game to find players cutting towards the hoop or who are open on the 3-point line, this will make him harder to defend. He may be able to pass himself open so that he can get higher percentage shots.
