The Atlanta Hawks G League affiliate the College Park Skyhawks have yet to win a game out of six attempts this season and they sit at the very bottom of the standings. This is despite some really good games by Skylar Mays, Sharife Cooper, and Jalen Johnson.

There have been other cameo performances by most of the other players in the team which is crucial for any chance of success. However, the nucleus of the team remains the Hawks’ first-round pick Johnson and their two-way players in Mays and Cooper.

The problem is that the varsity squad is facing some significant injury issues and they may need to take one, or all of these players. Last season, Mays was able to garner more court time when the Hawks had similar issues with injury.

How the Atlanta Hawks will make matters worse for the College Park Skyhawks

Due to the injuries being mainly at the shooting guard and small forward positions, Johnson may be needed sooner than the Hawks were expecting. He may not get many minutes still but they could use him at the end of quarters and in any junk time to protect their more established players.

On top of that, the Hawks may call up Mays due to his experience with the team last season. There is more going to be asked of Delon Wright and Lou Williams, and the Hawks may need someone to take the pressure off the guard rotation.

The schedule is not kind to the Skyhawks during this time either. If the Hawks do decide to recall Johnson and Mays then, the rest of the squad face a back-to-back against the Westchester Knicks. This is the team just above them in the standings so was going to present a tremendous opportunity for the Skyhawks to get their first win of the season.
