The Atlanta Hawks are currently experiencing deja vu from a season ago with three key wing players out. While the schedule may allow Cam Reddish to miss only a handful of games depending on how he responds to treatment, Bogdan Bogdanovic is out for a longer period.
Bogdanovic had an MRI on his ankle that he twisted in the Hawks loss to the New York Knicks. He was diagnosed with a sprain and would be reassessed in two weeks. This means that there are just over 28 minutes per game the Hawks need to cover, assuming that Reddish responds to treatment and is back playing in a short time.
There are two obvious choices who are able to slot into the small forward position if the Hawks choose to use Kevin Huerter as a shooting guard. These are Solomon Hill and Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot who are both solid options with flaws in their games.
The Atlanta Hawks could use Delon Wright more to get him going offensively
While Delon Wright has had an interesting start to the season, he could really contribute in a big way with Bogdanovic out. Wright is averaging 2.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in just 12.8 minutes per game. Together with Lou Williams, the second unit backcourt is starting to show some real promise.
However, Wright has struggled to find his place in the offense, shooting at 33.3 percent from the floor and 29.4 percent from beyond the long line. It is only his defense and ball-handling that are keeping Wright in the lineup at the moment. Coach Nate McMillan was not even playing the combination guard at the start of the season.
Now that Wright should get more consistent game-time, with a greater burden placed on his offense, we could see the 29-year-old veteran start to show more of the offense that he has developed over the past few seasons.
