The Atlanta Hawks need a spark – and depth – and they could find one in a player already in their ranks.

“The Atlanta Hawks have signed guard Kevon Harris to a 10-day contract, the team announced today,” the Hawks announced via the team’s website on March 1. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.”

Harris, 27, began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

He made his pro debut with the Orlando Magic against the Hawks, recording 1 rebound in 37 seconds in a 10-point loss. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the move on February 28.

Harris signed with the Hawks’ G League team – the College Park Skyhawks – in September. He averaged 19.7 PPG  and shot 43.2% from beyond the arc in 21 regular-season appearances with the Skyhawks.

Harris also has international experience, playing for Zadar of the ABA League in 2021-22.

“There are a couple of rules to consider with 10 Day contracts. First, a team must have an open roster spot to sign the player,” Spotrac’s Keith Smith wrote in January 2023.

“The second rule with a 10 Day contract to be aware of is that teams are limited to signing the same player to only two 10 Day deals. After the second 10 Day is complete, if the team wants to keep that player, they must sign them for the remainder of the season.”

A native of Ellenwood, Georgia, Harris averaged 11.0 PPG with Atlanta in the 2024 preseason.

Former Hawks landing on feet

Several former Hawks players have been on the move in recent days. Tony Bradley, who was playing for the Skyhawks, signed a 10-day with the Indiana Pacers, per HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto on March 1.

Scotto reported on March 19 that former Hawks two-way swingman Tyrese Martin agreed to a two-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

Larry Nance Jr’s brother, Pete, signed a 10-day with the Milwaukee Bucks on February 28.

The Hawks’ Nance has been sidelined since early February, and they are without several other key members of the rotation. Situations such as this always bring former members to mind in a “where are they now?” sense.

The Hawks have 22 games to go and a 3.0-game lead over the Chicago Bulls for the No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference.

All that would afford them is a road game in the Play-In Tournament.

Harris does not have long with the Hawks. But who knows what can happen if he can translate his strong play in the G League to the NBA if and when he gets a chance with the Hawks.
