In the quiet before their storm (the regular season) begins, the Atlanta Hawks were idle as the NBA tipped off the 2024-25 campaign with a doubleheader.

The reigning champion Boston Celtics blew the doors off the New York Knicks in the early game. But the second game was a spectacle long before the players entered the arena thanks to the historic precedent that would be set on the Crypto.com Arena floor.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, in another landmark moment in his storied career, shared the floor with his son, Bronny James, making them the first- father-son duo in NBA history.

They were joined by legendary MLB combo Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. in celebration.

Hawks star Trae Young – a father of three as James is – caught the scene and sent a message about it on social media. As Young has shown in numerous past instances, he appreciates the significance of the moment.

“Gotta be the coolest thing ever to play a PROFESSIONAL SPORT with your kid [saluting emoji],” Young posted on X on October 22. “That’s Different!”

Young has spoken candidly about the legacy he wants to leave for his kids

His younger brother, Timothy, narrated an ad spot for Young’s signature shoe in 2023. In the ad, Timothy Young says that is something he picked up from the Hawks star. James, as he has done many times in his career, took things to a different level.

He is not only creating an enduring legacy, his eldest son – and, perhaps, one day his youngest – is an active part of it on the basketball court.

Hawks could pair Young Bros. in 2029

“With the first pick of the 2029 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks select Timothy Young.”

It is a far way off – though it is much sooner than 2040 when Young’s son, Tydus, is draft-eligible. Still, the Hawks could one day see two Youngs on the floor.

Timothy Young is an emerging prospect in the 2029 class.

A [listed] 6-foot-2 shooting guard, the Youngs could one day present a lethal 1-2 backcourt punch. The Hawks star will be in his age-31 season; still in the thick of his prime years in an already historic career.

Unless the Hawks are out of position for Young – either because they are too good to land him or he is too good to fall to them –  it would certainly be an outcome worth rooting for.

Before then, though, the Hawks have to get through the Brooklyn Nets in the season opener.
