Atlanta Hawks Headlines returns to discuss Dwight Howard’s frustration, Dennis Schroder’s first season as a starter, and more.

The Atlanta Hawks made it an entire season without dealing with the Dwight Howard drama that plagued his stops in Orlando, Los Angeles, and Houston. It was just a matter of time before the crud hit the proverbial fan. It appears that day has finally come. Dwight Howard is unhappy in Atlanta.

That could spell trouble. Thanks to his hefty contract, it’s unlikely that the team will be able to trade him. If they do trade him they won’t be able to extract much value for him. It’d be best for all parties if they worked this thing out amicably and find a role that is suitable for him that also helps the Hawks win games.

Howard isn’t the only thing to discuss. Today’s batch of articles features reviews of Atlanta’s primary point guards this season, draft speculation, an update on a former Hawks’ legal situation, and much more.

Let’s take a look.

Atlanta Hawks: Dwight Howard, his comments, and his role

We provide our take on the tricky situation involving Dwight Howard. We understand that he’s unhappy with his role, but what did he expect his role to be? The modern NBA shuns post-ups and prefers big men that defend both at the rim and on the perimeter, are good passers, and are good shooters. Howard doesn’t pass or shoot particularly well and struggles guarding on the perimeter. He’s filling the role the Hawks need him to fill and that isn’t likely to change next season.

Atlanta Hawks 2016-2017 Season Review: Dennis Schroder

Collin Huguley reviews Dennis Schroder‘s first season as a full-time starting point guard for the Hawks. Schroder had an up and down season. He struggled with his outside shot and he and Mike Budenholzer didn’t always see eye to eye. Still, Schroder was exceptional in the postseason, going toe-to-toe with John Wall. Schroder has plenty to build on and looks to be an important part of Atlanta’s future.

The Atlanta Hawks had a confusing season

Also at Peachtree Hoops, Thomas Jenkins writes that 2016-17 was a confusing season for the Hawks. Jenkins is spot on.
