The Atlanta Hawks only made one trade before the deadline. They sent Rajon Rondo to the LA Clippers and getting back Lou Williams, two future second-round draft picks, and cash. It is safe to say, even after the first two games that the Hawks have benefitted greatly from this trade.

On his social media account, Williams mentioned retirement being a possibility as he had given so much to the LA Clippers. However, he still felt that he has a lot to give and if the first few games are anything to go by, he is correct.

In his first four games, Williams has had a positive impact on the box score. His first game was only a plus-five impact on the box score. In the next three games, he has had a plus 19 impact on the box score. Impressively the Hawks have won all four games which has certainly helped their quest for a playoff berth.

With Williams in the squad, the Hawks have an amazing bench unit. Tony Snell has moved from being a starter back to the bench. Danilo Gallinari is showing that he is a force off the bench, and Onyeka Okongwu is coming into his own with Williams on the court beside him.

However, where the Hawks are certainly going to change their rotations is that Williams will take almost all the minutes which were previously allocated to Brandon Goodwin and Skylar Mays. While this may impede their development for this season, Williams is certainly a better option than either of these two players.

However, thanks to the chemistry he has already developed with Okongwu, he is impacting the big man rotation. As Okongwu is becoming more of an offensive threat thanks to Williams’ playmaking ability, Clint Capela has the ability to sit for longer and give even more energy when he hits the court.
