The Atlanta Hawks may be using summer league to fill the final roster spot
The Atlanta Hawks open their summer league campaign with one question hanging over their roster. They have had a really good offseason by locking up their young core for the long-term. They extended Trae Young with a maximum deal and signed John Collins to a five-year deal.
They also traded for Delon Wright and signed Gorgui Dieng to a single-season deal in an effort to bolster the bench unit which was already one of the best in the NBA. The Hawks also drafted Jalen Johnson and Sharife Cooper in the 2021 NBA draft who both look like tremendous future pieces.
Then, in order to round out the rest of the bench, they re-signed Lou Williams and Solomon Hill, who were both tremendous for the franchise last season. The Hawks also extended a qualifying offer to Skylar Mays, signing him to a second season as a two-way player.

There are a few players on the summer league roster which the Hawks may be looking to assess to see their fit on the main roster. They have signed Jordan Bell and he could be a backup big for both frontcourt positions.
They have also signed Admiral Schofield who is yet to show his full potential in the league. He was not utilized to his full potential and was then cut from the OKC Thunder roster prior to last season. He will be desperate to make it back into the league and could really ball out for the Hawks.
The other potential candidate to make the 15th roster spot is DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell. Akoon-Purcell has a small amount of NBA experience playing for the Denver Nuggets and could be a good addition to the roster with his floor-spacing and his slashing to the hoop.
It appears that the Hawks have their guard rotation set which is not a good thing for Brandon Goodwin who the Hawks appear not to have pursued in free agency. He is also not a member of the summer league team which is not a good sign for him re-signing
